n.
1. Love to mankind; benevolence toward the whole human family; universal good will; desire and readiness to do good to all people.
Etymology: Late Latin philanthropia, from Greek philanthrōpia, from philanthrōpos loving people, from phil- + anthrōpos human being
We define philanthropy as thoughftul, intentional and ongoing sharing of one's time, talent and treasure for the common good.

"Let no one be discouraged by the belief that there is nothing one person can do against the enormous array of the world’s ills, misery, ignorance, and violence. Few will have the greatness to bend history, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. And in the total of all those acts will be written the history
of a generation."
~Robert F. Kennedy

Charity Navigator, BBB Wise Giving Alliance and Guidestar.org wrote an open letter to American donors in 2013 to end the false conception that financial ratios are the sole indicator of nonprofit performance.
